Strength training is essential for building muscle, using our state of the art weight training facility we can help you smash your goals.

We have a dedicated area for stretching containing yoga mats, foam rollers and medicine balls. We also have plenty of strength & stability training equipment.

Our weights area contains a wide variety of modern, state-of-the-art machines and free weights from Exigio to suit everyone from beginners through to professionals. We have pin-loaded, cable and smith machines as well as lifting platforms and power racks. We have kettle bells, strength bags, adjustable benches, rotational training equipment, medicine balls, trap and Olympic bars, bumper plates, a 10-20kg barbell range and a 1-60kg dumbbell range. We also have extra training aids such as resistance tubing, wrist lifting straps, weights belts, dips & chin-ups belts, dowel rods, steps and squat boxes and pads.

Free weights are the most efficient and results-driven way to increase muscle mass, target specific muscle groups and see major improvements in your size, strength and form. Unlike machines, which take some of the strain for the user, free weights are under the control of the lifter’s muscles alone from the minute you take them out of their cradle, or pick them up off the floor, until you’ve finished that last rep.

In our strength zone you will find a full range of equipment, suitable for intensive strength training; bodybuilding; boxing cross training; athletic strength training; and general fitness. We use Olympic plates and barbells, with rubberised plates in the heavier weight ranges. We also have a full selection of fixed-weight dumbbells, ranging from sub-10kg light training weights to Olympic standard heavy bodybuilding weights.

Our strength zone is set up to maximise your time with each weight. We have a selection machines, dumbbell and barbell benches: flat benches for rows, flys and hammer curls; inclined and declined benches for full presses; and straight-backed bench chairs for shoulder presses.

Our personal trainers can design a bespoke strength training programme, tailored to help you meet your goals for strength, size and appearance. Just let us know what you’re hoping to achieve, we are there to give you the power to go further, harder and faster.

3 Tips to Improve Your Strength

  1. Get moving

For gaining size and lean muscle, we recommend focusing on four main exercises, squat, bench press, deadlift and overhead press, which aren’t just for power lifters, big moves are an invaluable way to increase strength and lean muscle. Research shows that compound moves, such as the squat, recruit multiple muscle groups and elicit a larger hormonal response, making them more effective for building strength and muscle than isolated movements, like the leg extension.

  2. Be free

It’s not just the moves that matter most; equipment also plays a role, free weights over machines and get your hands on a barbell, flat bench, power rack and plenty of weights, using free weights shows a marked improvement in strength and balance.

  3. Carry on

If size is the goal, it’s best to prioritize muscle over miles. That doesn’t mean zero cardio, just a different kind. Focus on preserving muscles and burning fat. To accomplish those goals we recommend using hills sprints and farmer’s walk as part of a cardio routine, sled pushes and pulls, which combine strength training with cardiovascular conditioning.
